BY CAR: Russell is an easy 3 1/2 hours drive from AUCKLAND via WHANGAREI, KAWAKAWA to OPUA and across the bay by vehicle ferry. This departs regularly throughout the day to 9pm from Saturday - Thursday and to 10pm on Fridays
(from 1 Dec - 31 Jan till 10pm 7days a week). Once leaving the car ferry you follow the road for another 9km to Russell. Alternatively drive the Coastal Road - Old Russell Road north of Whangarei to Russell.

BY COACH: Regular coach services from Auckland serve the Bay of Islands.
Tour operators also offer an exciting and varied range of tours.

BY SEA: Passenger ferries cross from PAIHIA throughout the day and evening.
The region is a boaties haven with excellent facilities available.

BY AIR: Nearest airports are Whangerei, a one hour drive south of Russell, or KERIKERI, a 40 minute drive to the north. Rental cars are available at both airports and there is a transfer coach service from Kerikeri to Paihia.
